Born and raised in New Orleans, Stephen Klein is the owner of Stephen Klein Management, an artist management company that he started in 1995. Over the years he has managed a succession of popular bands that have combined to sell well over a million records, win major awards, sell gold records, and have numerous singles on the Billboard music charts.
His 25 years of experience in the music industry actually took off in Atlanta in 1987, where he began his career as part owner of Network Entertainment, one of the top producing college booking agencies in the country at that time. From Hootie & the Blowfish to Cheap Trick to Violent Femmes, Stephen booked the hottest bands and headline acts, producing concerts for major universities as well as Fortune 500 companies.
Helping to launch his long and successful career with Stephen Klein Management, in 1995 Stephen signed the alt-rock band, Deadeye Dick, with Ichibon Records (distributed by Warner Bros.). The unknown, local act became label mates with top 10 recording artist, Vanilla Ice, and soon Deadeye Dick’s first single “New Age Girl,” went #1 on the Billboard Alternative music charts, selling over 500,000 units. After Stephen placed the band on the RCA Records soundtrack for the feature film Dumb and Dumber, they again sold 500,000 units, bringing them to over one million in sales and two RIAA-certified Gold records.
Among many other popular bands that Stephen has managed, are two New Orleans-based bands: rock band, Cowboy Mouth, and the funk jam band, Papa Grows Funk. Soon after Stephen signed Cowboy Mouth with MCA Records, their first single, “Jenny Says” reached #1 on the Billboard Alternative music chart. With Papa Grows Funk, he was instrumental in the making of their critically acclaimed CD, “Needle in the Groove,” which was co-produced by legendary musician, Allen Toussaint, and Tom Drummond of Better Than Ezra. Both bands have fans around the world and tour constantly.
Stephen’s comprehensive experience in the music industry also includes managing two of New Orleans top stations: 106.7 The End, an alternative rock station, and Mix 92.3, a Hot AC station. As a festival producer, he will build on his 25 years of success, using his industry connections to assemble a “dream team” of live music and festival pros to produce a successful annual Jam Jam Music Festival beginning in 2014.
Stephen Klein Management is based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
